Blue Jeans is Mine!

Today one of my dreams came true! I finally got a definite YES from the breeder! I met with the top Exotic Shorthair Cat breeder in Cape Town (again) today at the local Cat Show in Durbanville, regarding the purchase of a little Blue Exotic Kitten. I have been waiting for a kitten for almost a year now, but it was worth every minute!

Because I wanted the specific colour (Blue) and specific breed (Exotic), I needed to wait for the perfect little kitten to be born and then allocated to me
. Because the breeders (Cracker Exotics & Persians) are mainly focussing on Show Cats and not Pet Cats, people that want to show with the kitten get an advantage and "jump the waiting list". In a litter there are also more Show Cats than Pet Cats, so if you don't want to show, you might be waiting a bit longer for your kitten. The breeders are also VERY STRICT when giving the kitten away to a perfect home.

So when I met Amanda & Pat again on Saturday 7 March 2009 at the Cat Show, I was asking her again about the litter she has at the moment. Lucky for me they did have Black and Blue Exotic kittens available! I was SO excited! Amanda knew that I was waiting for a Blue Exotic kitten for a while now, but her only concern was the showing of it.

The one kitten that she could give me was Show Quality (not pet quality) and she wanted the new owner to show with it. I didn't know this, so I didn't even ask them, although I wanted to give the whole "show-thing" a go... So after a long chat Amanda said I can get the kitten if I would show with her, otherwise if someone else comes along that wants to show, she will give that person perference and I need to wait a bit longer for another litter..

I immediately said "YES, I will show!" Because it has been on my mind for a while now, I didn't even hesitate! So that's when we came to an agreement and little Blue Jeans was allocated to me!

I was SOOO happy! I was jumping up and down while walking to back to our car and my husband just shooked his head and smiled at me..! :-)

On our way back to Bloubergstrand, I thought of the name "Katrien". It is an Afrikaans name and the English for it is "Catherine". Katrien is only 8 weeks old and I can go visit her when she is about 12 weeks old. I can't wait!!
